Disciples panic, Jesus sleeps

Here’s my latest sermon on one of the biblical narratives where we miss the point by reading it through hollywood glasses: you know, a crisis is afoot and everyone is in trouble, here comes the superhero to save the day, and everybody lived happily ever after? You know the drill, right? See what you make of it!

Sermon – Speak their language!

Acts 2:1-21

Sermon preached in Bishopton Parish Church of Scotland in Renfrewshire on 12th May 2011, Pentecost Sunday.

The main idea of this sermon is that the Holy Spirit did not enable the foreigners in Jerusalem to speak the disciples’ language, but rather the other way around. Why is it then that we constantly expect the ‘world’ to learn our religious lingo before we can communicate the Jesus experience?
